A little about myself:.....

My name is Sally Carver and I am a full time lampwork glass bead artist. I started making glass beads in 1999 as a hobby after my daughter Emily was born. As many bead makers will tell you melting glass is extremely addictive, so a hobby became a passion, and then eventually a full time career.

I'm not artistically trained though - far from it. I graduated from London University in 1985 with a degree in Physics and for most of my working life I was employed in the Security Print Industry as a Holographer.

Taking the decision to move closer to my mother meant I had to stop being a holographer and so the opportunity to be a full time bead artist became a reality. I have never looked back - although if you'd told me I would end up as a bead maker a few years ago I wouldn't have believed you.

As well as making beads and teaching lampwork to others I also opened a shop in 2010 in St Ives, Cornwall. I believe it to be the only one of its kind which sells only lampwork beads and jewellery of the same.

Having had well over ten years experience in bead making I'd like to think I've learned a little about bead making. Also, living close to my first teacher Diana East meant that I have been extremely fortunate to help and assist at her Studio in Enderby so over the years I have been very priviliged to have watched some truly great artists at work: Loren Stump, Dora Schubert, Michi Suzuki.....right up to Lucio Bubacco.
You never ever stop learning with hot glass - I don't think I'll ever truly master it!

So, when I'm not in Cornwall, (usually over the Summer) I now spend my days either making these little glassy gems or teaching others to do so. Some days I make really bad lampwork sculptures too - but I'm slowly getting better!

I live in the heart of the Midlands with my husband Adam and Emily my daughter.I hope you will enjoy exploring my glassy world!
